Brick parapets, concrete balustrades, and no
through-wall flashings atop a low-slope roof.
Yes, the roof became sponge-like. Replacing the
roof without addressing the through-wall issue
would cause the roof to continue in it's
sponge-like manner. Tearing down brick parapets
to install through-wall flashings would prove
costly. A combination of cladding the brick
parapet, installing a through-wall flashing at the
balustrade locations, and replacement of the
existing roof became the recipe for performance.
It is a performance that still delivers several years
later.
